Hiking in the Karura Forest

Still city-limits bound until we get our own vehicle, but determined to have some fun exploring, we went to the Karura Forest. This was a first time for J. as well as for me. When J. lived here in the mid-1980s, the forest was too dangerous to visit.

I’m happy to say that, now, it’s a very safe place. The forest reserve is a beautiful area in the northern part of Nairobi. There are trails for hiking, mountain biking, and walking. It’s dog-friendly and even has some off leash areas. There is also an area for outdoor fitness. The park is open from 6 am to 6 pm everyday. You can learn more through Friends of Karura Forest.

We had a lot of fun on the 5k trail. We saw the waterfall and the Mau Mau Caves. We also signed of the Hash House Harriers, who must have done a run earlier that morning.

Here are some pictures from our visit there this weekend.
